Homebell is built in Canada for Canadian families. This page explains what we collect, why, where it’s kept and how to delete it.
The short version
•
We never ask for a kid’s name, birthdate, photo or email. A kid is a grade and a picture they pick.
•
We collect what Homebell needs to send practice at your time, and nothing for advertising.
•
We don’t sell or rent your information, and there are no ads or ad trackers in Homebell.
•
Our database is in Canada. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time.
What we collect about you (the parent)
•
Your email address, which is also how you sign in.
•
Your time zone and your settings: practice times, which emails you get, and notifications.
•
Your consent to our emails: the wording you agreed to, when, and the IP address and browser it came from (Canada’s anti-spam law asks us to keep this).
•
If you tell us: how you heard about Homebell, your kid’s school, and the link you came from.
•
Your subscription status (trial, active, paused or cancelled) and when it renews. We never see or store your card number.
What we collect about your kids
•
Grade, school board, French program, subjects and the picture they use.
•
Their practice: the questions they get, their answers, coins, streaks and the rewards you set.
•
If you set one, a 4-digit PIN. It is stored scrambled, so no one at Homebell can read it.
•
Devices they sign in on: a label such as “iPad” and when it was last used, so you can see and remove them.
Payments
On gethomebell.com, payments go through Stripe. You enter your card on Stripe’s page, and Stripe tells us only whether the subscription is active.
In the iPhone and iPad app, subscriptions are bought through your Apple ID and billed by Apple. In the Android app, they are bought through Google Play and billed by Google. Apple or Google handles your payment details under their own privacy policies; we receive the subscription status, the plan and when it renews.
To keep app subscriptions in step with your Homebell account, we use RevenueCat, which receives the purchase record from Apple or Google and a random ID for your account. It does not receive your name or payment details.
How we use it
•
To build each kid’s daily practice for their grade, board calendar and subjects.
•
To send the emails and notifications you chose: reminders, worksheets, weekly reports and account messages.
•
To show you how your kids are doing, and to keep sign-in safe (for example, limiting PIN tries).
•
To understand, in total numbers, how families find Homebell and use it, so we can improve it.
Who we share it with
Only the companies that run parts of Homebell for us, and only what each one needs:
•
Supabase: our database and servers, in Canada (Montreal region).
•
Resend: sends our emails.
•
Stripe: website payments.
•
Apple and Google: app downloads, app payments and push notifications.
•
RevenueCat: keeps app subscriptions in step with your account.
•
Google Analytics: counts website visits (not in the apps or on kid screens).
•
Expo: delivers push notifications to the apps.
•
Namecheap: hosts the gethomebell.com website.
Where it is kept
Your family’s Homebell data is stored in Canada. Some of the companies above, such as the email, payment and notification services, may process information in the United States or other countries, where it is protected by our agreements with them but may be reachable by local authorities under local law.
Cookies and storage
Homebell keeps you signed in using storage on your device. If you arrive from a link with a campaign tag, one small cookie remembers that tag for 30 days so we know which posts bring families. On the website (not in the apps, and never on kid screens), Google Analytics uses cookies to count visits and see which pages people use; it gets the page address without any codes in it, and we don’t use it for advertising.
Kids
Homebell is set up and managed by parents. Kids only answer practice questions and see their own coins, streaks and rewards. The kid screens have no ads, no chat and no way to contact anyone, and kids never type personal information.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
We keep your information while your account is open. Sign-in attempt records are deleted after 2 days.
You can delete your account at any time in Plan and settings, under Delete account. You can delete straight away, or, with paid time left, when your plan ends: then nothing more is charged and your family, kids, answers, rewards and devices are deleted on that day. Payment records that tax law requires stay with Stripe, Apple or Google. So each email gets one free trial, we keep a one-way code made from your email (a hash, which can’t be turned back into the address) after the account is deleted, and nothing else. If you subscribed in the app, also cancel it in your Apple or Google account so it doesn’t renew.
