how it works

Homebell help

Short daily practice that follows your kid’s class, at a time you pick, on school days only. Here is how to set it up and get the most out of it.

Getting started

Sign up and pick subjects

Signing up takes about two minutes. There is no password: we email you a code.
1
Tap Start free trial and pick your kid’s grade and school board. We use the board’s calendar, so there is never practice on PA days or holidays.
2
Choose subjects. One subject is $7.99 a month and two are $12.99. Pick a third and it switches to All subjects, every subject for $19.99.
3
Pick a practice time between 4:00 and 7:00 PM and a picture for your kid. The picture is how you and your kid tell kids apart; we never ask for a name.
4
Add another kid if you like. The second kid is 10% off and the third and more are 20% off.
5
Enter your email, tick the consent box, and type the code we send you. Your 7-day free trial starts right away.

Set up kid sign-in

Kids can practise from the link in your email, or sign in on their own. There are two ways to sign in, and you set both up under Kids.
1
Own tablet, phone or computer: open Kids, tap Set up a device, and scan the QR code with the kid’s device (or type the code at gethomebell.com/kids). The code works once and lasts 15 minutes. The device then stays signed in.
2
Shared computer: give your kid the family code (it looks like BELL-K7Q4M2) and tap Set a PIN. They go to gethomebell.com/kids, enter the family code, tap their picture and type their PIN.
3
To sign a device out, tap Remove next to it under Kids. It signs out straight away. Kids can also tap Sign out on their own page.
4
Five wrong PINs lock it for 15 minutes, and 20 in a day lock it until you unlock it. We email you when that happens.
Kids only ever see their own practice, coins, streak and reward. Nothing about billing, settings or other kids.

What happens each school day

Homebell runs on your board’s school calendar. On weekends, PA days and holidays nothing happens.
1
Early in the morning we build each kid’s set from what their class is likely learning this week.
2
At the practice time you picked, we email you a reminder with a button to start. If you turned on the worksheet, it comes 15 minutes earlier as a PDF.
3
Your kid answers online, from your email link or their own sign-in. Each subject is 10 questions, about 10 minutes. Kids can do the subjects in any order, stop part way and come back later the same day.
4
Your dashboard updates within seconds: how many they got right on the first try, their streak, and anything that needs more practice.

Answering online and earning coins

Online is the main way to practise: it grades every answer and keeps your dashboard up to date.
1
Right on the first try earns 10 coins.
2
A wrong first answer shows a hint and gives one more try. Right on the second try earns 5 coins.
3
Wrong twice shows the right answer with an explanation, and earns no coins.
4
Missed topics come back as review questions in the next few sets.

Worksheets and Done on paper

Printing is a backup for days away from a screen. Only answers entered on Homebell earn coins.
1
Print today’s worksheet from Practice, or turn on the daily worksheet email in Plan and settings.
2
The PDF has your kid’s picture and grade at the top, the questions with space to answer, and an answer key on its own page for you.
3
If your kid did the set on paper, tap Done on paper on their card. We ask you to confirm, because paper answers keep the streak going but don’t earn coins.
4
Changed your mind? Tap Enter answers online. It removes the paper mark and opens today’s practice. If your kid starts online anyway, their online progress replaces the paper mark.

Match what your kid is learning in class

Sets follow the order most Ontario classes teach the curriculum in. Teachers vary, so you can change it.
1
On Practice, find the subject under your kid and tap Class on something else?
2
Pick the topic they are on in class and tap Use this topic. Sets follow it from the next day.
3
Once the usual order reaches that topic, sets carry on from there. Tap Back to the usual order to undo it any time.
4
When your kid has mastered a topic, sets move on by themselves.

Rewards

Coins are more fun with something to save for.
1
Open Rewards and add one, like "30 minutes of gaming" for 400 coins.
2
Your kid sees their progress toward the cheapest reward on their own page.
3
When they have enough, tap Mark redeemed. The coins come off their total.

Skip a day, pause or cancel

Life happens. None of these break the streak.
1
Skip today: on the kid’s card, tap Skip today. No reminder, and the day doesn’t count. Tap Undo skip to bring it back.
2
Pause: under Plan and settings, pause for 1, 2 or 3 months, for example over the summer. The pause starts when your paid month ends, and you are not charged while paused.
3
Cancel: tap Manage billing to open Stripe, where you can cancel, change your card or see receipts.

Emails you get

Everything is on by default except the worksheet, so you never miss a day. Change any of it under Plan and settings.
1
Practice reminder: each school day at your kid’s practice time, with a button to start.
2
Still to do: 90 minutes after practice time, if something is left.
3
Progress report: every second Friday at 6 PM, with days done, first-try score, streak and topics.
4
Check-in: after 3 school days in a row with no practice, and after two weeks, a note about changing the time or pausing.
5
Account emails: the evening before a website trial ends, a payment that didn’t go through, a locked PIN, and sign-in codes.
6
Tips and offers (only if you say yes): a new subject for your kid, or adding a brother or sister.
7
Daily worksheet (off unless you turn it on): the printable PDF, 15 minutes before practice.

For kids

Get to practice
Tap the button in your parent’s email, or go to gethomebell.com/kids on your own device and tap Today’s practice.
Coins
Right on the first try: 10 coins. Right after a hint: 5 coins. If you see the answer, no coins, but you will get another go at that topic soon.
Streaks
Finish your practice on school days to grow your streak. Weekends, holidays and days your parent skips don’t count, and one missed school day a week won’t break it.
Rewards
Your parent picks the reward. Your page shows how close you are.
Done for today
On a shared computer, tap Sign out when you finish so the next person can use it.
